Hi, I’m Sam. I’m a songwriter.
Music has always been one of the main characters in my story. I can’t imagine it being otherwise. Whether driven by some relentless need to express complex feelings or by the urge to relate a simple but heart-wrenching barroom lament, I’m compelled to do it through music.
Born and raised in Texas, I devoured the songs of the great Texas songwriters and of many others from parts beyond. There’s a special kind of magic in heartworn, dusty, blue collar poetry set to a memorable melody that can alter your perspective and change your life; or at the very least, make you think, smile, wonder, or cry.
I aim to carry on the tradition of the literate songwriter; to search for truth in the raw, unfiltered human condition and in my own experiences and present it with honesty and a handful of simple chords.
I now live in the High Country of Arizona, but my heart is that of a gypsy troubadour, and when the road calls, I listen. Maybe our paths will cross someday.
